Professional Rapid Test Kit (RTK)

Professional Rapid Test Kit Antigen (RTK-Antigen) uses a nasopharyngeal swab for sampling. The kit that we use are all Medical Device Act (MDA) certified. It detects viral antigen, which are surface protein on the surface of the virus. RTK-antigen test accuracy varies on the type of kit, but generally the sensitivity is around 85% – 90% and specificity is 99% – 100%. This test is suitable for some pre-departure flight and arrival passengers. RTK will usually takes around 10-15 minutes for the result and it will be linked to MySejahtera account.
RT-PCR Test

RT-PCR, which stands for Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction, uses swab sample from the nasopharynx and also oropharynx. Swab sample are stored in cool ice-box before being transferred to KKM-certified partner lab for testing. RT-PCR detects viral genetic material, and thus the accuracy is much higher than RTK-antigen. It has a sensitivity up to 95% and specificity is 99% – 100%. However, because it is very good at detecting viral DNA, even dead viral particle in someone who had recent COVID-19 infection might still show a POSITIVE result. This test can be used as confirmatory or diagnostic test and is also suitable for pre-departure flight. It will take less than 24 hours for the result.
Rapid PCR Test

Rapid PCR test, just like RT-PCR, takes swab sample from the nasopharynx and oropharynx area. The sample will be kept in a Viral Transport Media (VTM) before being run in the laboratory. Rapid PCR is a molecular test to detect the genetic material of the COVID-19 virus. It uses Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAAT) and has a similar sensitivity and specificity of a RT-PCR test. It can be used as confirmatory test and is also suitable for pre-departure flight. Rapid PCR Test has a shorter turn-around-time, and the result can be obtained as fast as 90 minutes.
Self Test Kit (RTK)

Self test RTK kit uses either nasal swab, saliva sample or both to test the presence of COVID-19 antigen. Because the sample can be easily obtained, it can be done by the public themselves and does not require a healthcare professional to obtained the sample. It can easily be done even for the paediatric age group. However, because saliva and nasal swab sample usually contains less viral particle as compared to the oropharynx and nasopharynx, this causes the accuracy of the self test kit to be less accurate. The sensitivity of self test kit is around 80% and the specificity is around 97% – 100%. All our self test kits are approved by Medical Device Act (MDA). Self test kit will produce result within 15-20 minutes. It can be used as a screening tool for COVID-19, but not as a confirmatory test.

Definitely. We are obliged to report all test done to KKM. The result will be reflected in your MySejahtera and you will also receive a hardcopy of the result (for RTK test) or a softcopy of the result (for RT-PCR or Rapid PCR test)

First of all, don’t panic if your test result is POSITIVE. We understand there a lot of things to think about and plan ahead if your result is POSITIVE, but our doctors are well trained and experienced enough to give advice on what to do next, including place of quarantine, warning signs to watch out for, hygiene during quarantine and when is it safe to go back outside again.

For travellers going to other countries, it depends on the airline and country requirement. It is better to confirm the timing and type of test with the airline and immigration office first. A Rapid PCR or RT-PCR is the most advisable test if you are not sure which one to do.
